A small sculptural vase, shaped like a fragment of coral reef. Thrown first as a miniature moon jar, then squished and punctured by hand until its walls opened into a network of roots – closer to a living reef formation than a traditional vase. Finished in a matte "black walnut" glaze with drips of deep jade green pooling in its crevices, like moss taking hold on stone.
Set a dried strawflower in its central cavity, and the piece takes on a quiet vanitas quality: life and decay held in the same small form, the way 17th-century still life painters once paired blooms with skulls.
